This graduate course is designed for educators seeking to use the power of film to enhance students' analytical thinking, reading, and writing skills. Participants will explore the elements of film and filmmaking, including narrative structure, cinematography, sound, music, and juxtaposition. Through film analysis, teachers will learn to engage students in critical thinking and discussions and develop creative assignments to help students identify themes, symbols, plot structure, character development, and stylistic techniques.
Active participation and meaningful discussions are integral components of this class; therefore, it is required that teachers share insights and apply new strategies in their classrooms when applicable. By the end of the course, educators will be equipped with the tools and knowledge to use film as a medium to enhance their students' analytical writing and critical thinking skills.
